David Ross

David Ross, 1bigthink’s founder and CEO, directly advises clients on cybersecurity, privacy, and innovation.

Before starting 1bigthink, David headed the cybersecurity and privacy practices at Baker Tilly. In this role, David provided practice leadership and advised strategic clients on cybersecurity and privacy risk, program compliance, and execution.

David has worked on cutting-edge projects within the Government Contractors, Pharmaceutical, Health Care, Energy, Information Technology, Manufacturing, and Scientific industries.  He uses his background as a cybersecurity and privacy thought leader to help clients understand and sustainably address risk and compliance.

Prior to this position, David served as General Manager of General Dynamics Commercial Cyber Services. David was originally brought to General Dynamics Information Technology to help senior management discuss and create strategies to identify and pursue white space opportunities.  After successful completion, David worked for the Business Solutions and Strategies Group as an embedded senior strategic adviser.  As part of this role, David was instrumental in the creation of the business and operating case for General Dynamics Commercial Cyber Services.

Before joining General Dynamics Information Technology, David served as the Lead Innovation Consultant for Janssen Healthcare Innovation, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson (J&J) companies. He was an integral member of the management team to create and implement a long-range growth strategy for strategic positioning of J&J products across industries and new markets.

David currently serves as a member of the Intelligence and National Security Alliance (INSA) Financial Threats Task Force. The goal of the task force is to determine how to address illicit financial activity, including cyber threats, and help shape public policy as it relates to the commercial financial sector. David also serves on the Board of Directors for PROPAGENIX, a platform technology company supporting drug discovery and clinical development research markets in addition to clinical diagnostic labs conducting molecular diagnostic tests for personalized cancer therapy. 

David has an entrepreneurial history of successfully creating new businesses, penetrating new markets, forging new business models across a variety of industry verticals, and assembling world class teams. During his career, David has founded six companies, and used his unique combination of business understanding, engineering, software development, and technology to deliver innovative solutions with positive results in global markets. David is an innovation thought leader with a unique focus on the ideation processes. He applies unique skills to create and execute innovation and entrepreneurial strategies within corporate culture boundaries. 

As a recognized thought leader and published author, David is sought out to speak on Privacy (GDPR and CCPA), Cybersecurity (Sustainable Cybersecurity, CMMC), Innovation, and Business Strategy. 

David has MBA degrees from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and ESADE Business School, a Master’s in Engineering from the University of Maryland, and Bachelor of Science degrees from Carnegie Mellon University.  David is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University. 

David is a Board Leadership Fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) and holds a CERT Certificate in Cybersecurity Oversight from Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute. David is also a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), a Certified Information Privacy Profession - Europe (CIPP/E), and a Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). David is also a Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE) from the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).
